- Blood oxygen saturation level, also indicated as SpO2, is a measure of the percentage of oxygen carried by your blood. A normal SpO2 level ranges from 95% to 100%. However, this may change, depending on different factors, such as current health conditions, altitude, or exercising. Maintaining a normal blood oxygen level is necessary since, in some cases, blood oxygen levels can be indicative of health problems.
- You can keep track of your estimated blood oxygen levels in Wellness app on your watch, either by initiating a new reading or by allowing background readings.
- SpO2 measurements on your watch are not for medical use. Thus, please consult your doctor if you have any health concerns.
Your watch tracks your blood oxygen levels by measuring the reflection of red, green, and infrared light signals coming from the back of your watch.
- To set up Blood Oxygen (SpO2) Tracking on your watch:
- Open Wellness app on watch
- Enable Blood Oxygen Tracking
- Make sure all the required permissions are granted
- To enable background readings, please enable both Sleep Tracking & Blood Oxygen Tracking in Wellness app. Your watch will automatically track your SpO2 during sleep.
You can track your blood oxygen levels with your watch in one of the following ways:
- Take a new reading:
- Open Wellness app on your watch
- Select Blood Oxygen
- Tap “New Reading”
- Stay still until the reading completes
- Allow background readings:
- Make sure that you enable both Sleep Tracking & Blood Oxygen Tracking in Wellness app
- Wear the watch to sleep for background SpO2 reading
- Wear your watch slightly higher up your arm and avoid pressing your watch against your wrist bone.
- Make sure your watch fits comfortably on your wrist. Wearing your watch too tight constricts the blood circulation while wearing it too loose may let other light in, which affects the measurement.
- Place your hand on a flat surface with your fingers resting open. The back of your watch should be in contact with your skin.
- Stay still and avoid interacting with the watch during the measurement.
- Avoid direct bright light on the watch while reading. This may interfere with the photodiode which measures the reflection of light signals and produce inaccurate results.
- If your hands and arms are cold, try warming them up first.
- Tattoos may affect the measurement and the accuracy of the final results.
- Your blood oxygen level can also be influenced by different factors, such as current health conditions, altitude, breathing rate or exercising.
To view your Blood oxygen levels;
- Open Wellness app on your watch
- Select Blood Oxygen
- Your most recent Blood oxygen level is displayed on the screen. To view past data, please scroll up to access the history.
Yes. However, the power consumption won’t considerably affect your normal usage.
The Heart Rate feature is a simple heart rate monitoring app that displays your real time continuous heart rate data in terms of average beats per minute (BPM). While you have this app running, the watch will continuously measure your heart rate (green LEDs flashing continuously on the watch caseback) and you will see HR BPM measurements updated every 1 second if your heart rate changes.
- Wear the smartwatch above your wrist bone with the watch still and flat against your skin.
- Aside from the Heart Rate feature in the Wellness app, you can also take a heart rate measurement several other ways:
- Assign Heart Rate to one of your watch face’s complications, or data points, from the watch face app options. Your BPM reading will automatically update throughout the day after the first reading, or you can prompt a reading at any time by tapping the icon. You will see dashes on your screen after tapping the heart rate icon; be patient. It can take 10-15 seconds to capture a reading. If the sensors have trouble capturing your heart rate, the smartwatch will walk you through some recommendations.
- Take a manual reading at any time in the Google Fit watch app by tapping the heart button. Manual readings taken in Fit will appear here with time stamps. Your heart rate will automatically track during workout sessions. The stats will appear with the rest of your data in the Workout History section of the Google Fit watch app.
- Make sure you are wearing your smartwatch higher and tighter on the arm with the sensors flat against your skin above the wrist bone.
- Temperature, sweat, irregular movement, and tattoos can cause interference. Keep the smartwatch as still as possible and remove any condensation between device and skin.
- If you have tattoos on your wrist, the sensors may not be able to get a reading. Wear your watch on the other hand if the skin is clear.
- If you have poor circulation or are cold, warm up first before starting your exercise to help improve heart rate readings.
Yes. However, the heart rate monitoring settings will be automatically adjusted based on different battery modes to optimize battery usage.
2. Wellness Watch App FAQs
Activity, Sleep, Cardio Fitness, and Heart Rate are available on all touchscreen smartwatches powered with Wear OS by Google with the Wellness app. Our smartwatches with multi-color heart rate monitors (green and red LEDs) also include a Blood Oxygen feature in the Wellness app (estimated SpO2). All features can be accessed from the Wellness watch app. Sleep, Activity, and Blood Oxygen are also available as Tiles.
Charging my watch
If your watch came with an accessory cable that has a USB plug on one end and a “charging puck” on the other end, this is a watch that can be re-charged via USB by attaching the USB plug to a USB charger and the charging puck to the back of your watch for charging. If you are not sure or did not see an accessory charging cable, look on the back of your watch and if you see metal pins or rings inserted into a plastic case back, this watch is rechargeable. If you don’t see those rings or pins, this watch likely takes a coin cell battery that needs to be replaced once or so a year.
- For watches with charging pucks that have 2-pins (the charging puck is what came with a USB cord and attaches to the back of your watch), most USB wall adapters with a minimum rating of 5V 500mA will typically charge your watch from 0-80% in about 1 hour.
- For watches with charging pucks that have 4-pins (the charging puck is what came with a USB cord and attaches to the back of your watch), most USB wall adapters with a minimum rating of 5V 1A will typically charge your watch from 0-80% in about 30 minutes.
- For fastest charging speeds, only the 4pin charging cable and puck that came with your watch should be used. 3rd party charging cables cannot be guaranteed to provide fast charging.
Several factors can cause your watch to take longer to charge than the advertised typical times.
- System updates during the first few days.
- Environment / temperature. Using in high ambient temperatures can force your watch to stop charging.
- Using a bad USB charger. We suggest using a UL approved wall adapter with a 5V 1A rating (minimum) to ensure the best performance. Not all USB adapters are rated for 1A and while 500mA charges can be used, your watch may charge slower so we recommend to check the rating and try another USB wall adapter if necessary.
- Using a non-Fossil charging cable and puck. Please make sure the charging cable and puck that came with your watch is used. 3rd party charging cables cannot be guaranteed to provide fast charging.
- Make sure that the watch charging/data rings on the bottom of the watch are clean and free of contaminants.
- Check the four silver pins on the charger that connect to the watch. Make sure they are not bent, broken or damaged in some other way.
- If available, try using another charger (wall wart, computer port, etc) connected to the cable.
For WearOS watches with charging rings on the watch case-back, any of the charging cables with the circular charging pucks (2 or 4 pins) can be used to charge the watch but performance may vary.
To note, the charging rings on our WearOS watch case-backs consist of either 2 concentric rings or 2 concentric rings that are split, creating 4 separate electric contacts. The WearOS watches with split rings, 4-pin case-backs, can charge at the higher and faster charge rates when paired with a 4-pin charging puck. All WearOS watches with charging rings will always charge at the slower rate when using the 2-pin charging pucks. Watches with 2 concentric rings on the case back (not split) will also charge at the slower rate even when paired with a 4-pin charging puck.
Any laptop USB port or UL approved USB wall adapter will charge your watch
- If you have one of our WearOS watches with the split rings (4-pin) case-backs and a 4-pin charging puck, you can connect this to your computer using developer tools and get developer access to the system so you can side-load and test your apps.
- For best data connectivity, make sure that the cable wire is aligned with the crown button. This position provides a more reliable data connection for HS-USB data. Also make sure that the watch charging/data rings on the bottom of the watch are clean and free of contaminants. If you have connection issues, try disconnecting and reconnecting the charger to the watch with the cable aligned with the crown button.
