The Danish Japanese Connection: Denmark The Royal Café Terrace in Tokyo

By Susan Rogers Chikuba

Tokyo Square Garden in the Kyobashi commercial district is a prime example of how this city makes multiuse towers a draw for everyone. The complex boasts 30 shops and restaurants and 18 office floors. One of its oases is Denmark The Royal Café Terrace, a warm and welcoming space created by Rud Christiansen. Here you can savor green tea lattes or Rud’s famous Double Roast espresso along with contemporary Danish bites like Smørrebrød “Scanwiches” and Æbleskiver pancakes, in a sun-filled setting accented with colorful Flowerpot pendant lamps by Vernor Panton and chairs by Hay.
