What’s New for Skagen, Fall 2015: Mariza Scotch Shares Details

Form, simplicity and function are key to the Danish aesthetic—and, to SKAGEN. This season, we’re very excited to launch our first collection designed by Chief Creative Director, Mariza Scotch. Her vision? Pair Skagen’s longstanding focus on function with a newly elevated aesthetic. In advance of Copenhagen Fashion Week, we sat down with Mariza to ask about the new collection and where she’s taking the brand.

Q: Mariza, can you share your thoughts on the new collection of leather bags and accessories?

A: You know, we started out as a watch company with a focus on mesh metal bands. One of our goals now is to express our softer side. We discovered our customer loves our new leather watch bands, and it felt like a natural step to extend our offering in that material. Our Fall 2015 Leathergoods collection has gotten resounding early support in previews; it will help us build our credibility as a leather resource.

Q: How do these pieces fit into the season’s trends?

A: We’re not focused on trends. I see Skagen as a refuge from fashion. We’re style-driven, functional, and pared-down, and we’re known for a lack of adornment. It’s a relief to find things that aren’t screaming for attention. Ironically, that ethos may be what fashion is all about right now.

Q: Why has Skagen chosen to focus on expanding its collection of bags?

A: We’re expanding the notion of what a watch company can be. Our big theme as a company is "time," and we’re offering customers a chance to depend on us throughout the day - not just to get to the next meeting at the appointed hour, but to arrive in style. Let’s face it: arriving in style improves life.
